Introduction
XO01 is a high quality crossover network, that - due to its modular construction - may be configured to perform all the processing required for almost any two-, three- or four- way loudspeaker system.
XO01 performs frequency division, driver equalization, driver time alignment and power limiting - all in a 1 unit Half-Rack cabinet, that can be integrated into a standard 19" system.
All audio electronics, except the output amplifiers, are located on 9 plug-in modules, allowing the system designer to configure XO01 for almost any loudspeaker system.
XO01 has room for 2 input-modules, 3 filter-modules and 4 output processor-modules.
The input-modules provide input balancing and low frequency cut off, the filter-modules provide frequency division and the output processor modules provide the necessary equalization and time alignment for the drivers used in the speaker system, or output level limiters can be installed. If limiters are installed, driver equalization and delay must be performed by the filter-modules.
XO01 can be configured to operate as a 2 channel two-way or a 1 channel three- or four-way crossover network.
In 2 channel two-way mode, the low signals from both channels may be summed internally to obtain a mono sub bass signal.
In 1 channel modes, the low signals can be combined by means of an external mono low link between two XO01s.
In 3-way mode, the unused input and output can, alternatively to use as mono low link, be used as a line driver, optionally with limiter, or as a fixed equalizer for a loudspeaker with passive crossover network.
XO01's mode of operation is determined by the position of the modules and by a DIP switch.
By eliminating the filter- and processor-modules, XO01 will operate as a high quality line distribution amplifier with a dynamic range of 123 dB.
Simple to use
To make the daily use of XO01 as simple as possible, only a level control for each of the four outputs and a common mute switch are available on the front panel, as parameters like crossover frequencies, driver equalization, driver delays and limiter levels should be the concern of the system designer rather than the daily user.
Minimum use of rack space
XO01 is housed in a 186 mm deep, 1 unit, half width 19" (Half-Rack or HR) aluminum enclosure, and may be built into in a standard 19" system.
A single unit can be mounted be means of a rack ear extender, two units can be mounted side by side or 10 HR enclosures can be mounted vertically in a 6 unit high 19" frame.
Rugged construction for "on the road" use
The anodized aluminum enclosure is constructed from two 6 mm side profiles, a 5 mm front panel, a 3 mm rear panel and 1.5 mm top and bottom covers. Graphics on front- and rear- panels are negatively anodized, rather than just printed, for best possible wear resistance.
Level potmeters are dust proof, military approved types securely mounted by bushings rather than just soldered into the PCB.
Front panel
The front panel contains a level control and a red processor LED for each of the four outputs, a common mute switch with LED and a power LED.
To allow precise adjustment of the level controls, the first 90 degrees of rotation regulates the level from OFF to -4 dB gain, while the remaining part of the rotation ranges from -4 dB to +6 dB gain.
Rectangular fields above the level controls are intended for the application of self adhesive labels describing their function in the configuration used (for example : 'CH A LOW', 'CH A HIGH').
A red processor LED is placed next to each level control. The function of this LED is determined by the processor-modules installed.
The mute function mutes the four outputs by releasing their output relays. The mute function is automatically activated for 10 seconds after power is applied or if the supply voltage is too low for proper circuit operation.
A red LED indicates when the mute switch is activated.
The green power LED indicates that supply voltage is present.
Rear panel
The rear panel contains two female 3 pin XLRs for input and external mono low link, four male 3 pin XLRs for the outputs and a FCC68 connector for the low voltage cable from the external mains transformer.

Input-modules: 
IA17AElectronically balanced input-module with DIP switch programmable high-pass filter. Cut-off frequencies of 14, 21, 28 or 35 Hz at 6 dB/octave or 20, 30, 40 or 50 Hz at 12 dB/octave can be selected, or the high-pass filter can be bypassed.

All parameters are programmed by socketed resistors.

FI20 6, 12, 18, 24, 30 dB/octave Sallen-Key crossover filter with Constant-Directivity horn equalization in the high output.
FI2212, 18 or 24 dB/octave state-variable crossover filter with 6, 12, 18 or 24 dB/octave high-pass filter in input, 1-band peaking cut equalizer in low output and a Constant-Directivity horn equalization in high output.
FI2412, 18 or 24 dB/octave state-variable crossover filter with 8.order all-pass filter (phase alignment) in low output, 1-band peaking cut/boost equalizer in low output and a shelving cut/boost equalizer in either low or high output.
FI2512, 18 or 24 dB/octave state-variable crossover filter with a 4-band peaking cut/boost equalizer and a shelving cut/boost equalizer in both outputs.
Processor-modules: 
PC048.order all-pass filter (phase alignment), 1-band peaking cut/boost equalizer and a shelving cut/boost equalizer. Note : some options exclude each other.
PC054-band peaking cut/boost equalizer and a shelving cut/boost equalizer.
LI05Limiter specially designed for loudspeaker protection. The limiter's operating parameters are programmed by selecting proper component values. Limiter threshold, attack delay, attack time, release delay and release time can be programmed individually. Due to the attack delay and program dependent attack time, the limiter is totally in-audible until gain reduction is required.
LI06Ultra low-noise limiter specially designed for loudspeaker protection. The limiter's operating parameters are programmed by jumpers. Limiter threshold, attack delay, attack time, release delay and release time can be programmed individually. A novel gain-link system allows different frequency bands to have their side-chains linked either bi-directional or unidirectional. Due to the attack delay and program dependent attack time, the limiter is totally in-audible until gain reduction is required. The LI06 has a dynamic range of 126 dB (unweighted) and a typical distortion figure of 0.0006 %

Due to XO01's modular construction, a complete technical specification can not be given, as the performance of the unit depends on the modules installed. The specification given here is for a 2 channel 2-way configuration equipped with 2 IA17A electronically balanced input-modules, 2 FI20A1K0 1 KHz 24 dB/octave Linkwitz-Riley filter-modules and no processor-modules. Unless otherwise noted, specifications are for 20 Hz - 20 KHz, with 600 ohms load on outputs and with level controls in 0 dB position.
